The price of the dollar in Lebanon fell once morest the pound today, Sunday, May 8, 2022, in the unofficial (black) parallel market transactions.

The price of the dollar today in Lebanon on the unofficial (black) parallel market ranged between 26650-26700 Lebanese pounds per dollar, compared to 26750-26850 Lebanese pounds per dollar, yesterday, Saturday.

Last Sunday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun pledged to continue working to transform Lebanon’s economy from a rentier one to a product that would root the people of the country in their land.

And the “National News Agency” quoted Aoun as saying, on the occasion of Labor Day, which falls today: “From the heart of the difficult conditions we are experiencing, a salute of appreciation to every Lebanese worker, for his efforts every day in order to earn a living with honorable efforts.”

He added: “My pledge to the Lebanese and the workers among them is to continue to work so that the clouds of crises resulting from the accumulation of years, the workers of Lebanon paid their heavy prices, will dissipate, so that the dignity of the most prominent contribution will return to them by moving Lebanon from a rentier economy to a productive economy that will root our compatriots in their land as well as in the aspirations of a promising future.”

The Lebanese pound continues to decline once morest the US dollar, amid government attempts to implement an economic reform program and save what can be saved from the national currency, which has lost 90% of its value so far.

Last April, the Lebanese authorities and a team of International Monetary Fund experts reached an agreement at the expert level on comprehensive economic policies that might be supported by an agreement to benefit from the “Extended Fund Facility”, with a request to make available resources from the Fund in the amount of 2173.9 million drawing rights.
