The Egyptians are awaiting the Central Bank of Egypt’s interest rate decision on September 22, a day following the US Federal Reserve issued its interest rate decision, which is expected to raise interest rates by 75 basis points to control inflation.
Investment bank Hermes research expected the Central Bank of Egypt to raise interest rates by 100 basis points (1%) during the next monetary policy committee meeting.
Standard Chartered Bank expected the dollar exchange rate in Egypt to move gradually, to rise to 20.75 pounds by the end of 2022.
Standard Chartered Bank also expected that the Egyptian government would reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund to obtain a $6 billion loan before the end of September.
On the other hand, Standard Chartered maintained its expectations of inflation rates reaching 11.6% in the year ending in June 2023, with a peak of 15% in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The inflation rate recorded 14.6% in August, affected by the increase in fuel prices.
According to the bank, the central bank is expected to raise interest rates by 100 basis points at its meeting on September 22, to curb these rates.
