Not only Mrs. Mai’s family but also the households that cultivate regarding 29,000ha of winter-spring rice in Tran Van Thoi district have such joy.

In U Minh district, farmers also have the joy of having a good harvest and winning prices. According to many local rice farmers, many households have switched to cultivating high-quality rice varieties such as Dai Thom and ST, resulting in high yields and good prices. Local authorities have also encouraged farmers to grow high-quality rice varieties and provided technical training for farmers to cultivate more efficiently.

According to people’s estimates, the investment cost for the winter-spring rice crop fluctuates around 1 million VND/person. Thus, with the above yield and price of rice, farmers earn a profit of nearly 40 million VND/ha following selling rice.

Following the recommendations of the agricultural industry, this year, people in Luong Nhia commune sowed the winter-spring rice crop half a month earlier than the same period in order to avoid drought and salinity at the end of the crop.

In the 2022-2023 winter-spring rice crop, farmers in Hau Giang province sowed more than 75,500 hectares, 500 hectares more than the plan. Farmers focus on sowing rice varieties such as: OM 18, Dai Thom 8, OM 5451, RVT, ST 25, Jasmine 85…

Export price of rice increased sharply

Currently, the production atmosphere at rice factories is very busy and urgent thanks to a more vibrant export market than in previous years. According to business owners, favorable rice exports and high world demand have pushed up the selling price.

In addition, the reason for the increase in rice prices is also due to climate change, which has made many countries producing food difficult, and the supply decreased. This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese rice.

Recorded in Kien Giang, the price of rice is increasing day by day, every day from 100-300 VND/kg. The price of rice also increased from 800-1,000 VND/kg. Currently, many large rice importers from Vietnam such as China, the Philippines, Africa, Europe, etc. are actively purchasing reserve rice.

According to Mr. Pham Thai Binh – General Director of Trung An Hi-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, the price of fresh rice exported to Europe is at 7,500-8,000 VND/kg, while the price of fresh rice in the field increases day by day. Currently, farmers enter the rice harvest at a time when countries are in need of food reserves, so prices are increased. Vietnamese rice is selling at a high price, so contracts signed for the winter-spring crop in 2023 will have better prices.

“The company had orders for 5% broken rice and 25% broken rice at the price of $485/ton and $495/ton, an increase of $15/ton compared to the end of 2022. Currently, the price of rice exported to Europe is up to 1,250 USD/ton”, Mr. Binh added.

Trung An Hi-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company is exporting orders to Europe from 1,050-1,250 USD/ton for ST24, ST25 organic standard and GlobalGAP, other fragrant rice from 700-925 USD/ton.

Realizing that the export rice market has many advantages, the winter-spring rice crop 2022-2023, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, living in My Thai commune, Hon Dat district signed a contract with a rice farming enterprise in a safe direction on the total area. 52ha.

“With the company’s support for farming techniques and input materials for rice cultivation in a safe direction, the harvest is consumed at a good price, so farmers can feel secure in production. Currently, the price of DS1 rice is at a record high. 8,700 VND/kg, ST24 and ST25 rice also increased to over 7,000 VND/kg, so my family and I are very excited,” said Mr. Cuong.

Kien Giang has a total rice cultivation area of ​​more than 700,000 ha/year, the average food output of the province is regarding 4.3 million tons/year.

In order to increase the value of rice grain for export, the province is focusing on implementing the project to develop 1 million hectares of high-quality rice of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with an area of ​​220,000 hectares. This raw material area is expected to be a lever for the sustainable development of the province’s rice industry.
