For Gustavo Navarro, managing partner in Peru of Gas Energy Latin America, this increase in the price of fuels It is due to an increase in the cost of import freight, in addition to a high demand for fuel in the northern hemisphere as it is summer on that side of the world.
“[La demanda en el hemisferio norte] it has its peak in August, but between July and August the market demand is high, but so that this market can be served, inventories are formed between the end of May and June”
Gustavo Navarro, managing partner in Peru of Gas Energy Latin America.
Felipe Cantuarias, president of the Peruvian Hydrocarbons Society (SPH), adds that the rise is due to an increase in the international price of oil.
Inflation
Juan Carlos Odar, director of Phase Consultores, pointed out that the fuels represent a weight of 10.5% in the inflation of Metropolitan Lima. In addition, he projected that for May annual inflation will be around 8.5%.
Both Navarro and Cantuarias pointed out that under the current scenario, the rise in prices in fuels to be continue. The president of the SPH specified that this is due to the fact that the international scenario is still affected by the war in Eastern Europe and a reduction in crude oil production due to the effect of the pandemic, added to the volatility of the dollar.
This rise in fuels It leads to inflationary pressures continuing towards an increase, added Odar. For the following months, he indicated, “The annual rate of inflation it will continue to rise until July or August”.
