The price of bread will increase 6% due to increases in rates for bakeries

Bakery centers in the province of Buenos Aires reported that as of Monday, February 6, they will increase a 6% the prices of bread and baked goods that they market In this way, the kilo of bread will cost between $460 and $480.

“Unfortunately we have no other alternative, before the repeated increases that we have been suffering in the tariffs of energy, fuels and raw materials”, explained Martín Pinto, president of the Bakery Industrial Center of the Buenos Aires town of Merlo.

“We had to make this determination to continue taking care of our industry, our SMEs and the source of work for bakers”, he added.

“We call on the sectors businessmen and government authorities to stop the increases, because price increases mean restrictions and decreases in consumption and that, in the short and medium term, means closures of bakeries and layoffs of personnel, something that we want to avoid”, assured the leader of the bakery industry.

Some of the bakery centers that adopted the measure, in addition to the one mentioned in Merlo, are those of Quilmes, Florencio Varela, Moreno, General Rodríguez, Marcos Paz, Las Heras, Exaltación de la Cruz, Campana and Zárate, among others.

According to the price increase scheme for gasoline and diesel agreed through the Fair Prices program, fuels will have an increase of 4% during February and another rise of 3.8% in March.

Regarding energy costs, the residential light users, included in levels 1 of high income and 3 of medium income, will receive an average increase of 14% in their electric service on their bills.

For their part, gas bills still have rate increases pending definition. As announced by the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón, during 2023 there will be a single update in the cost of the input of 28.3% for those users who receive high and medium income.
