Spaghetti bolognese is a dish that you have all eaten at least once in your life. A star in the restaurant, even in the evenings with friends. Only, here is bad news for your favorite dish: its ingredients are not immune to inflation and this summer, you may even find it very salty.
To understand the problem, head to the supermarket. Today, our journalist is concocting a homemade spaghetti bolognese for you. First stop at the vegetable department and the note is already heavy: the price of carrots has increased by 70%.

For a good Bolognese sauce, you need other ingredients, the price of which has literally skyrocketed in recent months. Count +13% for spaghetti and +60% for onions. However, carrots are getting the record increase. The price of tomato puree has increased by 39% and 15% for celery and add 20% for parmesan. Fortunately, no increase for minced meat.
In total, your dish will cost around €16.39. Seven months ago, it would have cost you €13.10. If your spaghetti bolognese is costing you more, it’s primarily because of the rise in energy prices, but not only. “We had a fairly bad spring for vegetables, which delayed the seasonal recovery”, specifies Etienne Mignolet, spokesman for the FPS Economy.

A bad harvest for vegetables, the war in Ukraine for pasta and as for industrial tomato puree, the person in charge is still elsewhere: “Wage costs, taxes can come to explain it”, notes the spokesperson.
In an Italian restaurant that our journalist visited, Marcello keeps smiling, but he had no choice: this year, his spaghetti Bolognese costs €1 more. “In the end, they won’t come! I can’t charge 15 or 16 euros for a spaghetti. Even I won’t eat it at that price!”.
This dish, once cheap, may cost you a little more this summer.
