The press reports some information regarding the assassination of Shinzo Abe

On July 8, 2022, Japanese police said they had arrested a suspect in the shooting of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The suspect is a 42-year-old man named Toroya Yamagami. On the followingnoon of July 8, Japanese police searched the home of Toru Yamagami. Police found suspicious explosives from Toriya Yamagami’s home. According to the latest reports from Japanese media, Yamagami admitted, that he believed Abe was linked to a “religious group”, and then shot Abe. The report did not mention the religious group the suspect was referring to.
The suspect was armed with a homemade pistol. According to Japanese media reports, due to the negligence of security personnel, the suspect camouflaged a homemade rifle as a camera and shot Abe Shinzo.
According to the Japanese website Mainichi Shimbun, police officers stated that Toru Yamagami admitted that the guns he used were “pistols he made himself following buying parts online.”
