The Special Advisor, Head of the Presidential Communication Department, Telesphore Obame Ngomo, called on Wednesday November 6, 2024, media professionals invited to a sober ceremony in a local hotel, to immerse themselves in the content of the new constitution to better inform and educate the Gabonese population during the referendum campaign which was kicked off today by the President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.

“It’s about empowering everyone because our job doesn’t change: Inform, Educate and Entertain; and for now it is “Educate” that is important”, stressed Mr. Obame Ngomo.

In order to allow the media (national and international) to disseminate the right information, the presidential communication distributed to the fifty journalists invited on the occasion, copies of this fundamental law which will be subject to approval or not during of the referendum which will be held on November 16.

“We educate when we have the information and when we have the right information; and in this booklet which is the draft constitution, we have the right information, it is an official document”, he made clear.

In political transition since the coup d’état (also called liberation coup) of August 30, 2023, Gabon, led by soldiers united within the CTRI, is organizing this referendum to return to constitutional order.

The new constitution resulting from the Inclusive National Dialogue (DNI) held last April, establishes the strong presidential regime which abolishes the post of Prime Minister. The current Transition charter is based on the 1991 constitution which highlights the semi-presidential regime.
