**Interview with Dr. Irena Černiauskienė, International Relations Expert**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Černiauskienė. We’re here to discuss President Gitanas Nausėda’s upcoming address at the UN General Assembly. What do you think are the key themes he will focus on?
**Dr. Černiauskienė:** Thank you for having me. President Nausėda’s speech will likely center on several crucial themes. A primary focus will be on maintaining the multilateral world order based on international law, which is increasingly important in today’s geopolitical landscape. He will highlight the urgent need for a coordinated global response to the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine, emphasizing accountability for war crimes and aggression.
**Interviewer:** That’s certainly a pressing issue. How do you think Lithuania’s position will resonate among other nations at the General Assembly?
**Dr. Černiauskienė:** Lithuania has taken a strong stance against Russian aggression, which aligns with the interests of many other Western countries. His call for solidarity and collective action will likely resonate well, especially among EU and NATO member states. However, it may create some tension with nations that have a more neutral or sympathetic stance toward Russia.
**Interviewer:** In addition to security issues, the President is also expected to discuss sustainable development goals. Why is this important?
**Dr. Černiauskienė:** The intersection of security and sustainability is vital. Addressing climate change and sustainable development is not just an environmental issue; it’s also a matter of global stability. By integrating science, technology, and innovation into these discussions, Nausėda aims to underscore how advancements can foster resilience and support geopolitical stability, which is particularly relevant in light of current global threats.
**Interviewer:** He will also be meeting with leaders from Latvia, Estonia, and Poland. Can you elaborate on the significance of these regional discussions?
**Dr. Černiauskienė:** Absolutely. The Baltic states have historically faced similar challenges concerning security and Russian influence. Their collaboration is crucial for regional stability. Meetings like this can strengthen collective security efforts and build a unified front, which is particularly important when dealing with aggressions that threaten their sovereignty.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, President Nausėda will attend a reception hosted by President Biden. What implications does this have for Lithuania’s relationship with the United States?
**Dr. Černiauskienė:** Attendance at such receptions underscores Lithuania’s close ties with the United States, particularly in the realm of defense and security. It reflects Lithuania’s position as a valued partner in Eastern Europe and can pave the way for strengthened bilateral relations, especially in areas like defense cooperation and economic ties.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Černiauskienė, for sharing your insights on these important matters.
**Dr. Černiauskienė:** Thank you for having me. It’s always a pleasure to discuss these vital issues.
