On August 31, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Shahidlar Hotirasi memorial complex, a memorial complex for victims of repression. Such painful events can never be forgotten,” he said during a tour of the memorial complex. Continuing his thought, the president said that “back in the 80s of the last century, thousands of compatriots [узбеков] were thrown into prison and persecuted under various slanderous pretexts.”
