The President of the USA discussed with local Lithuanians the possibilities of establishing a diaspora investment fund Business

As stated in the announcement of the Presidency, such a fund would contribute to the transformation and breakthrough of the Lithuanian economy.

According to the head of Lithuania, examples of foreign practice show that the development of investment capital is a promising area of cooperation between the state and its diaspora around the world.

“For the past five years, high-tech sectors in Lithuania have grown faster than traditional sectors, but in order to fully transform the Lithuanian economy into an economy with higher added value, larger investments are needed. By consolidating the country’s internal and external financial resources for investments in the Lithuanian economy, we can achieve excellent results,” the president was quoted as saying in the report.

G. Nausėda also discussed with the community, the founders of Lithuanian foundations in the USA, honorary consuls, the issues of attracting investment capital to the Lithuanian economy and the concept of creating an investment fund for the Lithuanian diaspora.

“Lithuanians living abroad actively contribute to the well-being of Lithuania with their initiatives that promote the cultivation of Lithuanianness throughout the world, by promoting the name of our country and popularizing culture. We will always be grateful for that. Looking to the future, I see another direction of strengthening Lithuania’s connection with the diaspora – encouraging investments in the Lithuanian economic sector and infrastructure”, said G. Nausėda.

At the meeting with representatives of the diaspora, Lithuania’s achievements in the fields of strengthening security and economic resilience, experiences of investment processes, investment forms and directions were presented.

Elijus Čivilis, head of the company Invest in Lithuania, and Dainius Vilčinskas, head of the national development institution ILTE, discussed expert questions with representatives of the diaspora.

At the meeting, it was agreed that discussions on the initiative of the Diaspora Investment and Loan Fund will be continued in an expert group of like-minded people, in which the country’s diaspora and Lithuanian financial professionals will participate.

During his visit to New York, the head of state also met with the managers of Philip Morris International, the company that made the first US investment in the country, and discussed the prospects of maintaining investments and jobs in Klaipėda.
