The President of the United Nations General Assembly calls for an end to human suffering in the Middle East

He said: “As we commemorate the first anniversary of the brutal attacks launched by the Palestinian faction movement against Israel on October 7, 2023, the Middle East region has been witnessing death, destruction, and displacement for a long time.”

He added: “Let me stress once again that human suffering must end, and it must end now. “We need an immediate ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and a return to dialogue with the aim of finding diplomatic solutions to the conflicts in the region.”

“Sustainable peace will not be achieved militarily,” Yang continued. Only a two-state solution based on the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions can guarantee lasting peace and security for both the peoples of Israel and Palestine, and indeed for the rest of the region.”

The President of the General Assembly called on “all parties, Israel and the Palestinian and Lebanese factions, to fulfill their obligations under international law and international humanitarian law,” and also called “urgently for the protection of civilians and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid.”

Today, Monday, marks the first anniversary of the unprecedented attack launched by the Palestinian faction movement, during which it launched thousands of rockets towards Israel, and its forces stormed Israeli settlements, which, according to Hebrew media, caused the death of about 1,200 Israelis, the capture of about 240 others, and the elimination of the “Gaza” division in the Israeli army.

This war, during which Israel faced accusations of committing “war crimes,” left as of Sunday, October 6, 41,870 Palestinians dead, including more than 16,891 children, and 97,166 wounded, according to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
