Today, Sunday, President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid stressed the importance of building dams and modernizing irrigation methods, stressing the need to protect water bodies.
And the Presidency of the Republic said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, at the Baghdad Palace, the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah,” noting that “it took place, during the meeting, which was attended by the Director General of the Planning Department.” In the ministry, discuss the latest developments in the water file.
The President of the Republic affirmed that “this file should be given priority in tasks through serious work and concerted governmental and non-governmental efforts to protect water resources,” noting that “most of the project designs exist and await implementation.”
He stressed “the need to protect water bodies from lakes and marshes, maintain dams and establish other dams to preserve water resources from loss and benefit from the relatively abundant amount of rain this year, in addition to preventing the excesses of fish ponds built on the banks of rivers,” pointing to the “importance” of developing irrigation methods. approved as the current irrigation methods deplete a lot of water resources.”
He stated that “the presidency of the republic is working to form a higher council for water that includes experts from the relevant ministries and bodies, and takes it upon itself to find solutions to the problems facing the water file, stressing that it is a great national task,” pointing to “the need to ensure fair water shares for Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.” And coordination with neighboring Turkey and Iran in this regard by entering into serious negotiations to reach solutions that guarantee justice in water shares for all.
The President of the Republic expressed his “readiness to support the Ministry of Water Resources in its work, as it is considered one of the oldest ministries and has a special importance,” stressing “the need to work to increase the ministry’s budget so that it can provide its needs and complete the necessary projects to improve the management of water resources in the country.”
For his part, Minister Aoun Diab Abdullah appreciated “the interest of His Excellency the President of the Republic in the water file and his directives in this regard,” and gave an explanation regarding the Ministry’s workflow and the plans set to manage the water file in the country.
