TIPASA- The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune called, Wednesday in Tipasa, for “a national mobilization” to save water resources in the country, in particular through the recovery of wastewater.
Speaking at the ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the “Fouka2” seawater desalination plant, the President of the Republic insisted on the imperative of “national mobilization at all levels” to optimize the use of wastewater and save other resources, because, he pointed out, “each treated liter of wastewater is equivalent to one liter of drinking water”.
Calling for increased efforts to save water resources, President Tebboune said that the desalination of seawater was costing the State “astronomical amounts”.
Algeria’s energy assets, its large companies like Sonatrach, and its financial resources, cannot be used as a pretext for waste, he underlined.
Welcoming the results obtained in terms of seawater desalination, the President of the Republic insisted on “the need to break into the field of waste water recovery at the same time”.
Commenting on the presentation on the “Fouka2” seawater desalination plant project, President Tebboune considered that the realization of such projects marked “a turning point”, in that it demonstrated the capacity of the executives Algerians to take up the challenge in terms of implementation and management, thus consecrating the “Algerianization” of the seawater desalination industry.
This project is a “pride for Algeria” and “a national work to be credited to the executives of Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, the Algerian Energy Company (AEC), and all the executives of the Hydraulics,” said President Tebboune.
President Tebboune called, in this context, to preserve these infrastructures, recalling “the numerous acts of vandalism suffered by the Fouka1 station in 2021 by a gang under the orders of the money mafia, who tried, every day, to sabotage the station’s electricity supply”.
In this regard, the President of the Republic has demanded local authorities, as well as water production companies, “to ensure the security of this structure in a permanent and effective manner, so as not to lead us to put under the direct protection of the Army”.
The year 2021 was marked by attempts to sow discord through water cuts, financial liquidity problems and attacks on medical staff, “but we overcame this stage”, he said. added.
In addition, the President of the Republic gave instructions to the local authorities of Tipasa on “mobilizing all the necessary means to remove the debris resulting from the floods which hit certain municipalities of this wilaya”, affirming that they will have all the prerogatives to reach this goal.
President Tebboune ordered the repair of the damage caused by these floods within 15 to 20 days, calling on local companies to remove the mud.
He also gave instructions to “take care of the small fishermen affected”.
