Russia – IOC President Thomas Bach in a conversation with Russian pranksters Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Aleksey Stolyarov) explained the impact of the Friendship Games in Russia on Ukraine.
The Friendship Games are scheduled to be held next September in the Russian cities of Moscow and Yekaterinburg, and the tournament will include competitions in 33 Olympic and non-Summer Olympic sports.
According to Bach, the countries participating in the Friendship Games support the Russian side in the military conflict.
The President of the International Olympic Committee said: “At the Friendship Games, they show their support for the Russian war in Ukraine and the violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.”
On the other hand, Bach spoke regarding Russia’s position towards the organization and commented: “The Russian side is very aggressive towards the International Olympic Committee.”
He continued: “You know, for them we are now a fascist organization.” He added that some Russian athletes will compete in the 2024 Olympics.
In the video posted by the two Russian pranksters on their Telegram channel, one of them appears impersonating the President of the African Union, calling on Bach and the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, to pray in honor of “Saints Feofan and Lexus” to disrupt the World Friendship Games.
Earlier, the President of the International Olympic Committee warned that participants in the Friendship Games, which will be held in September 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg, may face problems with the Olympics.
In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris as neutral individual athletes.
At the same time, athletes who support Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, as well as those with connections to the armed forces or security services of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
It is noteworthy that 12 Russian athletes and seven Belarusian athletes have qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The International Olympic Committee noted that a maximum of 55 Russians would be able to qualify for the Olympics, but the committee banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the opening ceremony of the competition.
