Egypt – Egyptian Football Association President Gamal Allam said that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will participate with the Olympic team in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
Each team has the right to field three players over the age of 23 in the men’s football competition within the activities of the Summer Olympic Games, scheduled between July 24 and August 9 in Paris.
The head of the Egyptian Football Association said: “Mohamed Salah wants to play with the Olympic team in the Paris Olympics, and he will be there.”
Gamal Allam indicated that Brazilian Rogero Micali, coach of the Olympic team, will soon announce the names of the top three players participating in the Paris Olympics.
The Egyptian national team is supervised by Mikali, who led his country to gold in the football competition at the 2016 Rio Olympics on home soil.
Egypt was in the third group alongside Spain, the Dominican Republic and a qualified team from the Asian continent.
Salah was absent from the last list of new coach Hossam Hassan, which played a friendly four-way tournament in Cairo and lost its final match to Croatia (2-4), after a request from the player himself and his team, Liverpool, because he was not fully prepared.
Salah was gradually returning to participate with Liverpool, after being injured in the second round of the African Cup in Ivory Coast in mid-February, and he will join the first team in the June camp, as Allam confirmed.
In response to a question from Agence France-Presse about the role of the Egyptian Football Association (Al-Jabaliya) in the issue of Salah’s participation with the first team or not, and whether it is sufficient for the intervention of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, Allam said: “Mohamed Salah’s relationship with the technical staff of the Pharaohs is the talk of the hour now.” I stress that it is not what some people portray it in the media.”
He added: “It is normal for there to be communication between the technical staff and professional players in general, and not Salah alone. Salah is a first-class national player and no one disputes his love for his homeland, Egypt. In the last Nations Cup, Salah was actually injured, and that is why he left the national team and returned to Liverpool to complete treatment.” .
It is noteworthy that Mohamed Salah’s record is devoid of any title with the Egyptian national team, as he finished runner-up in the African Cup of Nations in 2017 and 2021, but he has a rich history with Liverpool and was crowned with the Champions League in 2019 and the English Premier League in 2020.
