The electoral census started since April 29 continues in zone 1. To see the smooth running of the process on the ground, the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) Dago YABRE carried out this May 3 a tour in certain centers from Lome.
In the census centers, it is the great mobilization of the populations to the satisfaction of the president of the CENI and his delegation.
“Our impressions of the mobilization are good. Mobilization is strong. We have just brought two additional kits here to EPP Kélégougan to be able to absorb the crowds that are there,” said Dago YABRE at the EPP Kélégougan stage.
He said that things are now back to normal, following the few imperfections of the first day. “Now things are back to normal and where we’ve been, each kit is at close to 150 check-ins a day and I think that’s pretty good at this rate,” he said.
On the subject of a possible extension of the census in zone 1, he said that the CENI will advise independently. “The main thing for the moment is to have a reliable and clean electoral file that is authentic and trustworthy,” he said.
Togolese men and women over the age of 18 and who are not affected by any incapacity provided for by law, are invited by the CENI to go massively and serenely to the census and voting centers (CRV) in order to register and obtain their new voter cards.
It should be noted that Togo is actively preparing for the organization of the next elections, in particular the regional and legislative elections scheduled before the end of 2023.
The process has entered its active phase with the registration of voters for the constitution of a new electoral register. In zone 1, the census is scheduled to end on May 06, 2023, unless there is a last minute extension.
