The President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO), Silvia del Rosario Giacoppo, expressed, on Monday in Rabat, her support for the diplomatic path chosen by Morocco to resolve the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The President of PARLATINO praised in this regard the efforts made by the Kingdom within the framework of the United Nations process aimed at achieving a peaceful solution to this dispute, wisely avoiding “entering into a military conflict”.

“We support and defend the position of the Kingdom of Morocco to opt for the resolution of this conflict through diplomatic means and to respect what the United Nations has established over all these years so that the parties can reach a solution, without entering in a military conflict,” Giacoppo said in a statement to the press following his talks with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

“Morocco is a country of peace, it is a serene people and I am sure that it will manage to resolve this conflict through diplomatic channels”, assured the President of PARLATINO, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco.

In addition, the Latin American parliamentary official highlighted the excellent relations between PARLATINO and the Moroccan parliament, particularly the House of Councillors, two institutions that share the same visions and approaches, particularly with regard to the necessary consolidation South-South cooperation links.
