The president of Ecuador receives US congressmen to strengthen ties

Quito, Apr 11 (EFE).- The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, received this Monday in his office the US congressmen Ted Lieu, Robin Kelly and Terri Sewell, with whom he discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations, according to the Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency.

The meeting took place at the Carondelet Palace, the headquarters of the Ecuadorian Government located in the historic center of Quito, and was also attended by the United States ambassador to Ecuador, Michael Fitzpatrick, and the executive director of the Alliance for Democracy of the House of Representatives, Derek Luyten.

Topics discussed included the strengthening of security cooperation and the fight once morest organized crime; the interest in reaching a trade agreement in the medium and long term; and support for the association bill between the United States and Ecuador.

“The United States is a very important partner for Ecuador and that is how we see it from the Ecuadorian Government,” said President Lasso, who highlighted the bipartisan bill currently being dealt with by the United States House of Representatives.
