AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov expressed confidence that the classic Lada Niva, produced by the company since 1977, would celebrate its 50th anniversary in production. He spoke regarding this in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper.
“Fortunately, we had domestic developments, domestic platforms, and models that we produced with a high level of localization of 90 percent or more. These are three whales. Among them are Lada Granta and Lada Niva Classic, which, I think, will definitely reach its half-century anniversary,” Sokolov said in response to a question regarding the problems of car localization.
Sales of Lada Niva are growing, and next year the car will receive a modern, more powerful and high-torque engine, added the head of AvtoVAZ.
Maxim Sokolov also announced the return of an automatic transmission to Lada cars at the beginning of 2024. So far, the replacement of the previous automatic transmissions has not been adapted, he admitted.
