“The President has been consistent”: Vallejo responds to Lautaro Carmona’s statements

The Government spokesperson, Camila Vallejo, referred to the Statements by the General Secretary of the Communist Party (PC), Lautaro Carmona, regarding the relationship that exists between the Government and the Carabineros.

in conversation with t13, Carmona maintained: “I would like to assume that the presence of the President in the Non-commissioned Officers School is within the framework of the definition that he also made public at the moment in which he offered his condolences and expressed the pain of the Government and the President and of all of us who are in the Government, regarding the murder of the police officer in Quilpué. And where he promised that she would be together with the Carabineros ”

“Many people think that, although it is true, that is something that has to be registered in political activity, it can cause confusion that it is just on a day when large mobilizations are commemorating people who were assassinated precisely because of the actions of carabinieri under dictatorship and appears as a contradiction. The consequences that it had I think it was what it was, the protest is almost the same as the one that takes place every year and therefore I do not think it is a reaction to that presence, but in the register that many people do, because they ask me ‘I don’t quite understand,’” he added.

In this context, the Secretary of State stressed that “I have always pointed out that I am a Minister of Government, a Minister of State, therefore, I am not a spokesperson for any party, despite the fact that I am a proud member of one.”

He added that the Head of State has always stated that “There is no contradiction in what is the protection of the democratic public order that our country requires with the protection and respect for Human Rights.”

“At the level of the symbolic, many interpretations can be played, but the truth is that The President has been consistent in emphasizing always and at all times that there is no contradiction in what is the protection of the democratic public order that our country requires from the fight once morest insecurity with the protection and respect for the Human Rights of the people ”he added.

Along these lines, he specified that “if there are people who get confused regarding this, the truth is that they must not be confused. Not to be confused. Human security is a right of the people and as a government we are interested in safeguarding the security of the people, because democracy and security go hand in hand”.

“If we do not have greater security in our territories, in our populations, if we do not manage to have public order, the truth is that we limit the exercise of other rights, such as freedom of movement, freedom of organization, movement, association, etcetera,” he added.

“So for our Government it is essential to understand that human security together with respect for fundamental Human Rights are something compatible and not contradictory; and this, on whatever day it is, the President will always point out and that was what he pointed out in all the activities where he has participated during the week and he will continue to point it out when necessary and as many times as necessary ”, concluded the minister.
