The President appointed eight district court judges

As reported by the Office of the President, by decree Inga Ambrulevičiūtė-Januškevičė and Agnė Dargužienė were appointed as judges of the Kaunas Chamber of the Kaunas District Court, Voldemaras Bumblys as the judge of the Ukmergė Chamber of the Vilnius Region District Court, and Lina Greičiūtė-Petrauskienė as the judge of the Molėtai Chamber of the Utena District Court.

Vitalijus Melnikovas has been appointed a judge of the Vilnius city district court, Tatjana Papinigienė – a judge of the Vilnius district court of the Vilnius region district court, Vaida Pupšytė – a judge of the Kaunas district court of the Kaunas district court, Egidijus Selvenis – a judge of the Šiauliai district court of the Šiauliai district court.

On Wednesday, the country’s leader accepted their oaths to be loyal to Lithuania, honorably perform their duties, execute justice in accordance with the Constitution and laws, and defend human rights, freedoms and legitimate interests.

“No matter what challenges await you in the future, always remember that not only the fate of individual people, but also the future of Lithuania as a whole depends on the quality of your decisions. After all, the public’s faith in justice and trust in the judicial system is an essential prerequisite for a strong democratic state,” the president was quoted as saying in the report.

According to the Presidency, G. Nausėda wished the newly sworn-in judges of the country to rely not only on theoretical knowledge, but also empathy and wisdom when examining cases, never to lack courage, strength and patience in the responsible performance of their duties as a judge.

At the extraordinary meeting held on Monday, the Council of Judges also advised the president to appoint Diana Butrimienė as a judge of the Vilnius City District Court, Martynas Galvičius and Audrias Sadauskas to the Šiauliai District Court, and Igna Totila to the Panevėžys District Court.

The head of the country has not yet made a decision on the appointment of these judges.

The Council of Judges advises the President on the appointment, promotion, transfer and dismissal of judges. The President, after receiving the list of candidates drawn up by the Selection Commission, submits specific candidacies of judges to the Council of Judges for consideration.

District court judges are appointed and dismissed by the president on the advice of the Council of Judges.
