The prefecture of police bans the demonstration of the “convoy of freedom” in Paris

The decision fell through. The prefect of police announced on Thursday that he wanted to ban in Paris the “freedom convoys” who planned to “block the capital” from Friday. The latter, inspired by a movement launched at the
Canada, are intended to protest health restrictions,

“A specific device will be set up (…) to prevent road blockages, verbalize and arrest violators of this ban, ” added the police prefecture in a statement.

Departures from the south of France since this Wednesday

Left this Wednesday from the south of France, have been spreading the word regarding activist groups on social media in hopes of generating a similar mobilization to Ottawa’s.

“The stated objective of these protesters would be to block the capital by obstructing road traffic on the streets of Paris to promote their demands, before continuing their journey towards Brussels on Monday, February 14,” the prefecture details.

The prefect of police, who gave “firm instructions” to the police officers, recalls that obstructing traffic is punishable by a two-year prison sentence, a fine of 4,500 euros, the immobilization and impounding of the vehicle, the halving of the maximum number of points of the driver’s license and its suspension for a maximum of three years.
