“Hypervitaminosis is even more harmful than beriberi. Because the body can compensate for the lack of vitamins with food. Hypervitaminosis is always calcification. Calcium deposits in organs. In particular, aortic calcification is very dangerous, which can lead to its rupture. Symptoms – intoxication, thirst, vomiting, dehydration, constipation, sleep disturbances, joint pain, anorexia, she explained.

Also, hypervitaminosis is dangerous for adults with violations of the functions of the kidneys and heart, and the hormonal system may also suffer. In this case, not only a special diet and droppers are prescribed, but even hormones. Cardiosclerosis and chronic pyelonephritis can also happen, and the risk of fractures increases.

Formula-fed infants are prescribed vitamin D. But in case of an overabundance, they experience premature closure of the fontanelles, which increases intracranial pressure, Mukhina warned.

Children who have undergone hypervitaminosis lag behind in development, they have vegetovascular dystonia. Therefore, everyone should take vitamins only following passing tests and consulting a doctor, the nutritionist added.

To get the necessary amount of vitamin D naturally, it is enough to include some foods in the diet. The highest content of this vitamin is found in cod. One tablespoon of this fish contains the daily requirement of vitamins A, E and D, the expert noted. Herring has twice the amount of vitamin D as salmon. Mackerel, sour cream, butter, egg yolk are also rich in it.

In addition to foods, vitamin D can also be obtained through sun exposure. It is useful for adults to walk in the summer for at least an hour, and for children – up to three hours. It is important to do this not at peak times, but from 8 to 10 am and following 4 pm, when it is not dangerous to be in the sun. And it is important to use a cream with SPF and wear a hat.
