The possibilities of Guido Rodríguez’s return to America

After speculation about a possible return of Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez to América, sources close to the player have flatly ruled out this possibility for AS. Although his contract with Betis ends next summer, on June 30, and there is a possibility of not renewing with the Spanish club, it is considered unlikely that he will return to the Águilas.

The azulcrema midfielder, 29 years old, is focused on looking for a new opportunity in Europe. Recently, there have been rumors of interest in signing him for both Napoli and FC Barcelona. The key is that as his contract is about to expire, it would allow him to reach his new destination without the need for complicated negotiations between clubs or paying high sums for his transfer.

The way in which he says goodbye to Betis, if his departure is confirmed, from the green and white team will have economic repercussions for Club América. The Águilas sold the Argentine player in 2020 for an initial sum close to $3 million. At that time, the azulcrema club retained 30% of the player’s card, although currently, the Águilas own only 10%, they are still pending his future.

If Rodríguez goes free to any other institution, América will lose that percentage, which would translate into an economic loss. On the other hand, if the player renews his contract with Betis, América will keep 10% of the card for a possible future sale, which represents an opportunity for economic recovery.

Guido Rodríguez arrived in Mexico in 2016 to play with the Xolos de Tijuana, before being transferred to Club América. After his participation in the 2019 Apertura, he made the leap to Europe.
