The Port of Wilmington welcomes its first shipment of Moroccan citrus fruits for the 2022-2023 season

The Port of Wilmington saw its first shipment of Moroccan citrus fruits for the 2022-2023 winter season. The M/V Crown Garnet, a specialized reefer, recently landed at the first marine terminal in the United States dedicated to perishable goods. Its unloading began immediately, with a cargo of more than 5,000 pallets of fresh clementines.

During the winter fruit season, which will continue until May 2023, the port expects to receive approximately 12 shipments of fruit from the Moroccan Atlantic port of Agadir.

Joe Cruise, general manager of GT USA Wilmington, was on hand to greet the ship and present its captain with a plaque that marks the first port call of the season. “What a privilege to be the port of choice serving our Moroccan partners for the seasonal distribution of fresh and delicious fruit to American and Canadian consumers. We look forward to working together for another successful campaign,” said Mr. Cruise.

GT USA Wilmington greatly appreciates – and actively works to strengthen – the partnerships established with Morocco. The company recently welcomed two members of the International Relations Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Tangier, Najib Walali, board member, and Anouar Arbai, Chairman of the Committee for their first visit to the Port of Wilmington. After an informative discussion on current cargoes, trade links and cold processing, the two hosts were able to tour the 308 hectares of port operations.

Wilmington, Delaware is a major port of entry and distribution center for the seasonal import of fresh Moroccan citrus fruits, as well as other fruits and juices from around the world. Merchandise is stored in the port’s 850,000 ft² (79,000 m²) dockside refrigerated warehouse complex, which is one of the largest facilities in North America, before being distributed to markets throughout the continent.
