The Port of Asunción is ready to receive high-ranking authorities from Mercosur and Associated States this week

Asuncion, IP Agency.- From this Thursday, July 4th to Monday, July 8th, the Port of Asunción will receive multiple delegations from Mercosur and Associated States, within the framework of the Summit of Heads of State to be held under the Paraguayan Pro Tempore Presidency. On this occasion, Paraguay, led by President Santiago Peña, will hand over the Presidency to Uruguay, represented by its President Luis Lacalle Pou, who will hand over the Presidency to Argentina next semester.

The Pro Tempore Presidency of Mercosur is exercised by the Member States, in rotation and alphabetical order, for six months, in accordance with the Ouro Preto Protocol, which formalized the structure of the bloc formed 33 years ago, through the Treaty of Asunción.

The port is ready to welcome the different groups from the countries of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, which make up Mercosur. In addition, representatives from invited countries such as Bolivia, Venezuela and others from the region will participate.

The first day of the regional bloc’s activities will be the XLIII Extraordinary Meeting of the Mercosur Trade Commission (CCM), the third decision-making body of Mercosur.

The emblematic building of the National Navigation and Ports Administration (ANNP), which is part of the architectural heritage complex and part of the Historic Center of Asunción, will receive on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6, representatives of the LXII Extraordinary Meeting of the Common Market Group of Mercosur, which is the second decision-making body of the bloc.

Meanwhile, the Port of Asunción, whose first constructions began during the government of Don Carlos Antonio López in the 1890s, will host on Sunday, July 7, the members of the 64th ordinary meeting of the Common Market Council (CMC), which is the highest decision-making body of the bloc, made up of the foreign ministers of the Mercosur Member States.

The activity will end on Monday 8th with the Summit of Heads of State of Mercosur and Associated States, where the presidents will announce the decisions taken during the days of meetings of the authorities of the bloc.
