According to a study conducted at the Riga Technical University (RTU), in March 2023, 23% of respondents noted that on social networks they are partially or completely different from real life, and a year later, in March 2024, 32% of respondents admitted that on social networks they are completely different.

The most commonly cited differences in real life and social media last year was boldness – 25% of respondents admitted that their level of boldness differed on social media and in real life, 24% admitted that the differences were in appearance, 22% in attitude. to events, 21% – in lifestyle and 19% – in expressed opinions.

The study also found that the majority, or 70%, of people aged 18 to 74 spend more than one hour a day on social media. In addition, the number of people who spend significant time on social networks has increased – more than five hours a day – in 2023 it was 7%, and in 2024 already every tenth or 10%. Over the past year, the number of young people aged 18 to 29 who spend more than five hours a day on social media has doubled, from 15% last year to 30% this year.
