The poor conditions of older adults in care centers

The general director of Convite, Luis Francisco Cabezas, warned on Friday that 50% of older adults do not eat animal protein, according to a survey carried out by the NGO. He also indicated that the same percentage is in a situation of abandonment in care centers in the country.

The NGO also noted that 80% of grandparents do not have a health policy and 70% depends on someone else. Cabezas affirmed that the Government of Maduro must guarantee their right to food.

“We have no response capacity or NGOs. Neither small organizations to meet the needs of 4 million vulnerable people of health and nutrition”, alerted Cabezas during an interview offered to Unión Radio.

He recalled that public policies focused on addressing the reality of older adults are needed “urgently”.

He also stressed that not only this population is vulnerable. He added that children also suffer from such problems.

MORE THAN 600 THOUSAND LIVE ALONE

In January, Cabezas revealed that more than 600,000 older adults live alone in Venezuelaso that they find themselves in a “very unfortunate” situation and have feeding problems.

He pointed out that the Convite association carried out a study on the living conditions of Venezuelan grandparents. In this way, they managed to determine that more than half a million live alone, in the midst of the serious economic crisis.
