On Sunday, M. Ivaškevičius shared a video in which the windows of the apartment on Labdarių Street are shaking from the pounding music.
Next door is the popular club “Materialistė” in the capital, which the playwright accused of playing insanely loud music at night, making it impossible to sleep.
M. Ivaškevičius called it all “gateway to hell” and pointed the finger at the inefficiency of the institutions.
At that time, the owner of “Materialistė” was Matas Puodžiūnas 15min said that everything was done to prevent the sound from going outside, and the police had not fined the club for noise and, in general, it has a rare guest.
Reacting to this, M. Ivaškevičius did not hesitate to criticize the police, and the Vilnius City Municipality confirmed making an effortso that solutions for similar situations can be found.
“Not a special club”
V. Maziliauskas, the chief investigator of the 3rd police commissariat of the city of Vilnius 15min claimed that “Materialistė” is no different from other places of entertainment in the capital when it comes to noise.
“When it comes to Vilnius city center and noise, the club “Materialistė” is not unique in any way. It happens because the concentration of entertainment venues is high in the center,” said the official.
According to him, residents called 112 three times this year about the noise coming from this club, and twice as many in the last 12 months.
Once last year, the police punished the owners of the bar.
What is recommended to do?
However, according to the policeman, it is difficult for the officers who arrived to identify the noise.
“Whether that noise is specifically from “Materialistė” is difficult to assess objectively, because sometimes it is also noise from other bars and noise from people’s communication,” said V. Maziliauskas.
In that case, he said, whistleblowers could invite officers to the home, which could help.
“It is recommended if the presenter wants an objective assessment. But I understand that such reports are usually received at night, so maybe you don’t want to disturb the rest entrances, but there have been such cases,” the policeman asserted.
According to V. Maziliauskas, it is best for both sides to meet and find out the situation in a nice way – to find solutions suitable for everyone, but there are cases when both sides communicate only through the police.
The official pointed out that the National Center for Public Health conducts noise measurements, but that measurement will not show the source of the noise – it will measure what is in the background.
15min according to data, this week M. Ivaškevičius should meet with the owner of “Materialistė” M. Puodžiūnas and discuss the situation.
