The police investigated the policeman who attacked MK Gilad Karib at a demonstration

The Department of Police Investigations this morning (Monday) brought disciplinary proceedings once morest the policeman who was seen pushing Knesset member Gilad Karib (Labor) during a demonstration that took place in Tel Aviv last February. According to the department, the police officer had no authority to use force once morest the Knesset member.

“Under these circumstances and in view of the nature of the act, the Police Department directed the disciplinary department to subject the police officer to disciplinary proceedings.”

“I welcome the decision of the Police Department to prosecute the policeman who pushed me violently last February at a demonstration held on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv,” said Karib in response to the statement.

“It is impossible not to wonder how for four and a half months the policeman continued to stand in demonstrations in front of families of abductees and demonstrators. In recent months we have seen a steep increase in the level of violence by police officers – this is a direct result of the wind blowing from the minister, but no less so also of the laxity of the hands of the investigation department police officers and police disciplinary officials. It cannot be that for months citizens’ complaints are not properly handled.’
