The police carried out checks on Sunday evening: drivers under alcohol or narcotics were tracked down

This holiday weekend is also often conducive to car travel, sometimes late, with the usual dangers associated with alcohol consumption. In this context, the federal police organizes checks. These controls are static, and target alcohol and narcotics. They stand at different exits, or highway accesses. The police frequently change places of checks.

We saw one of these police checks in Ittre, at the exit from the outer ring of Brussels. “We are here to remind you that it is a time of celebration, and that it must remain so for all“, explains Christophe Thonus, first principal inspector at the traffic police. “We want to make sure everyone gets to their destination safely. We carry out checks at different places in Walloon Brabant. It’s a national action, so there are other teams as well. Here we are eight. Of course, it is impossible for us to be able to control each user.”
