“The pocket of money comes out”… Harsh scenes of the torture of a Sudanese child in Libya

In the past hours, social media in Libya has been buzzing with a harsh video clip showing the torture of a Sudanese child by an armed man in the Warshafana region. western Libyato force him to pay money for his release.

In the clip, the 15-year-old refugee Mazen Adam was shown, being held in a dark room, being severely beaten with a plastic tube on different parts of his body, following being stripped of his clothes.

The tears of the little one did not help

While the gunman demanded the youngster to bring a ransom of 5,000 dinars for his release, amid the child’s begging and crying.

Despite this, the kidnapper did not care regarding Mazen’s tears, but continued to whip him, saying: “I am broke…a prophet of money…the pocket of 5,000 looks.”

At the same time, the “Biladi Foundation for Human Rights” condemned the video, and what happened to the child registered with the UNHCR.

“Save the child”

She explained in a statement that Mazen, an orphan, the mother lives with his father following he was removed from the immigration detention center in the Ain Zara area, but he was kidnapped by a Libyan gunman in the city of Warshafana and taken to an unknown destination, since last August 30.

It also appealed to the security authorities to take action to arrest the culprit, free the child from detention and torture, and save him from death.

While these scenes, which have become recurrent, shed light on the violations and abuses that African migrants are subjected to, at the hands of armed militias in Libya.

It is noteworthy that Sudan has started, months ago, organizing voluntary return trips for its citizens who are victims of illegal immigration, who are in Libya, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration.
