While rumors of a new PlayStation Showcase are getting louder and louder, the industry is fussing behind the scenes and hinting at some great reveals in the weeks to come. Indeed, while a new trailer for the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy seems to be looming, it may well be that Sony is preparing a nice surprise for fans of a certain myth of the PlayStation era.
It was through a tweet that the Video Game Leaks account, bringing together well-informed people, announced the acquisition of a very popular Konami license by PlayStation. New information should even be disclosed this week. Looking at Konami’s flagship franchises on PlayStation consoles, there are two that stand out very clearly. Released in 1998 and 1999 respectively, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill are certainly the two titles targeted, but it is hard to see – unless there is a secret deal with Hideo Kojima – how the MGS saga could do without its emblematic creator. Other observers lean more towards Silent Hill. For years, the name of Konami’s game has been popping up regularly, but we don’t see anything coming. All discussions generally revolve around the aborted project of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, of which PT was an embryo. In any case, this shows that video games, like cinema, are struggling to get rid of their past and that countless series could be the subject of remakes or sequels in the near future. We are talking, for example, of possible sequels or remasters of Sly Cooper or inFamous.
