The Estonian Football Union has released a statement to the media by the national team players Konstantin Vasiliev and Sergey Zenev, as well as coach Andres Opera, regarding a joint dinner with the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin. About it informs Postman.

“We are sorry regarding this situation and we apologize to everyone whose feelings were hurt by our dinner and posting the photo on social media. Our conversation only focused on football,” the statement said.

Former Estonian national team player Andrey Stepanov posted a photo on social networks on December 31 with Karpin, Vasiliev, Zenev and several former football players.

The act of the players was condemned by the Minister of Culture of Estonia Piret Hartman and the association of fans of the Estonian national team MTU Jalgpallihaigla, and Vasiliev was offered to deprive the captain’s armband in the national team.

At the same time, the head of the Estonian Football Union, Aivar Pohlak, stood up for the players and said that it was important not to lose “the right to know people who think differently and the right to meet with them.”

Karpin was born in Narva and started his professional career in Tallinn.
