From 2024 February 27 Due to the renovation works, the Emergency Department of RVUL is temporarily moving to a part of the nearby premises of the Consultation Department. It is expected that the Emergency Department will operate in the temporary premises for regarding 6–7 months. P. Uksas, head of the emergency department, ensures that all emergency services will be provided as usual.
“Every day, 250-300 people apply to our department, this number of patients is expected even following temporarily moving to other premises. We will not limit the flow of patients, the services will remain the same, we will operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day,” he asserts.
Mr. Uksas says that the new entrance to the Emergency Department will be through the former entrance of the Consultation Department – it will be intended for both patients brought by GMP cars and patients arriving independently. When re-planning the premises and entrances, additional attention was paid to the smooth access of GMP cars – traffic lanes were formed for this purpose, automatic barriers were installed, as well as a special patient drop-off area.
The temporary changes are planned due to the soon-to-be-started renovation of the Emergency Department under the “Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit Infrastructure Modernization” project. The total value of the project is 10.9 million euros, it is financed with the funds of the Economic Revitalization and Resilience Enhancement Plan “New Generation Lithuania”.
In the emergency department, reception desks, patient sorting and waiting areas will be renovated, new fast track rooms will be installed, the number of beds in observation wards and resuscitation and intensive care units will increase, there will be another additional examination room for injured patients, etc. Modern ventilation and conditioning systems, engineering networks and information technologies will also be installed.
“After the renovation, we will return to the renovated premises, where conditions will be significantly improved for both patients and medical staff. They will be adapted to larger flows of patients, effective management of mass disasters, for example, in the event of an unexpected avalanche or a major accident. There will be a new patient queue management system that will be much clearer for patients and provide more information regarding the department’s workload.
We plan to publish the waiting time for the examination of the doctors who receive the most patients – orthopedic traumatologists and therapists – in real time both in the department itself and on the hospital’s website. In this way, patients will be able to assess whether it is really worth it for them to drive and wait, or whether it is better to contact a family doctor, or perhaps postpone the drive for a few hours when the queue decreases”, says the head of the department.
Patients of the consultation department should also not be afraid – the services will remain the same scope, all planned services will be provided (doctor’s consultations, examinations, procedures). The Consultation Department will be accessible from the main entrance of the hospital from the side of Šiltnamių Street.
The scope of activities of the consultation department will remain the same – all planned services will be provided (doctor’s consultations, tests, procedures). In some cases, patients will also be consulted in the departments of the relevant specialization located in the inpatient hospital – information regarding this will be provided to them at the reception of the Consultation Department, explaining how to get to the required doctor’s office.
“During the renovation period, informational signs and staff will help you navigate in the reorganized premises. Therefore, we hope for the understanding and patience of patients – the changes are temporary, and following the renovation, the environment of the Emergency Department will become much more comfortable, modern and safer, will help create a positive experience for patients and their relatives in the hospital, and better working conditions for our staff”, hopes the Emergency Department presenter P. Uksas.
