The pitching was brave, scary

The pitching was brave, scary

One of the most negative aspects of the season with 20 teams in the Mexican League is the quality of the pitching.

The number of home runs allowed by several teams is just as impressive as the number of pitchers who have uncontrolled pitchers, such as the embarrassing record set by the Bravos de León on Wednesday night against the Diablos Rojos del México, who, for their part, have the “positive” record for receiving so many courtesies.

The aboriginal pitcher set a Mexican League record by signing no less than 19 walks in the “Domingo Santana”, leaving behind the 18 that was held by the Quintana Roo Tigers, who signed him on May 13, 2014 against the Oaxaca Warriors.

In the Diablos-Bravos duel, another record was set: they gave out a combined 24 walks, including six from the infernal pitchers.

The brave pitching had in its starter Arturo Reyes the one who signed the most transfers with five, Reyes Moronta followed with four and three by three were Hazahel Quijada and Alberto Guerrero.

On the Pingo side, José Marmolejo was the lucky one by stealing the first base five times, Lewin Díaz did it four times and Arístides Aquino and Gabriel Gutiérrez appeared with three.

There are teams with pitching bodies that would make you cry, such as the Guerreros de Oaxaca, whose pitchers have given away 407 bases, an average of 4.85 per game.

The worst in this category are Oaxaca, Rieleros de Aguascalientes (387), León (381), Algodoneros del Unión Laguna (358) and Sultanes de Monterrey (356). The ones that give the fewest transfers, according to the figures as of yesterday, are the Saraperos de Saltillo, with 220. The Leones de Yucatán are second, having signed only 239.

Another pilot falls

The Saraperos are giving up few bases, but they cannot find stability in their game and, close to being out of the playoffs, they changed managers for the third time this season. Yesterday they announced that their former catcher Jonathn Aceves was promoted to the position of manager, replacing Puerto Rican Carmelo Martínez, who previously took the reins in place of Alfredo Amézaga.

Saltillo is four games away from sixth place in the Northern Zone, with six games left to play.

At the moment, the Sultanes, the Tecolotes de los dos Laredos and the Unión Laguna have qualified in the North. Monclova, Tijuana and Aguascalientes, in that order, are close to securing the other three spots. Saltillo, eternally invited to the big party, could be left out this weekend. — Gaspar Silveira
