An agreement is close between Artemis, a holding company owned by the Pinault family, and Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the famous American talent agency. François Pinault and his relatives are preparing to acquire for 7 billion dollars (a little less than 6.5 billion euros) a majority of shares in the company which notably represents Brad Pitt, indicated to Bloomberg sources familiar with the transaction.

The sale might be finalized “within the next two or three weeks,” these people said. Still, the latter have reported obstacles to sales that have not yet been eliminated. Nothing is certain yet. The shares of the Hollywood giant targeted by the Pinault family through its company comprising several shareholders constitute 53% of the capital of CAA.

Future muses?

They have been held since 2014 by the private equity fund TPG which, like other investors of this type, does not usually hold its acquisitions for more than a few years. The talents represented by CAA might eventually become ambassadors for the French group’s brands such as Saint-Laurent or Gucci. Salma Ayek, François-Henri Pinault’s wife, is a CAA client.

This is also the case of Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks or Steven Spielberg. The agency, founded in 1975, does not, however, specialize in film or television stars. For example, she also represents the interests of basketball player Chris Paul. The three men at the head of the company since the 1990s might retain their leadership responsibilities if the transaction did take place.
