The Philosophy of Bitcoin: Exploring the Intersection of Ancient Philosophy and Modern Digital Currency

Understanding the philosophical underpinnings of Bitcoin can provide valuable perspective on their importance in the worlds of finance and technology. Exploring the intersection of ancient philosophical ideas and modern digital currency can be a thought-provoking journey for those interested in both philosophy and Bitcoin. Why should you read it? The book has a dual purpose, it provokes two widely held beliefs. The first is that the money must have an official cover. The second is that the state is a concept that can be applied to any political society, and it is not possible to think in “post-state” political forms. In The Philosophy of Bitcoin, Álvaro D. María takes a deep dive into a financial and socio-political revolution that is none other than Bitcoin. He masterfully portrays Bitcoin not just as a technological advance or financial instrument, but as a profound social phenomenon comparable to monumental inventions such as gunpowder, the stirrup, or the Internet. D. María’s main research lies in dissecting the complex relationship between money and the state, examining how Bitcoin, as a decentralized form of money, challenges traditional notions of sovereignty and power. He draws on sources ranging from Greek philosophers to modern thinkers to make his argument interesting and understandable. It provides a comprehensive analysis of how Bitcoin can redefine our understanding of real estate law, economics, and political constructions. Bitcoin book The book is divided into three parts and 15 chapters. In the first part, the interested party can read regarding topics such as the philosophy of money and currency or the question of the denationalization of money. Barter is usually cited as the origin of money, but there is no historical evidence that this happened. There are no anthropological precedents to confirm that economic barter existed in any human society. In the second part, Bitcoin plays the main role. It provides insight through such propositions as how bitcoin should be approached, how it redefines ownership and why Bitcoin is important and not blockchain technology. It raises the big question of what will happen to the environment, which is perhaps Bitcoin’s biggest criticism. However, this criticism can only be interpreted or mean anything at all in the context that the basic premise is that Bitcoin is useless. Bitcoin opens the possibility for savings and more rational use of money. The third part focuses on the issue of states and central banks versus Bitcoin. After the chapters discussing the concept of the state and its crisis, “What can states do regarding Bitcoin?” titled – and also the shortest chapter – gives the answer in just one word. What this word might be, I leave it to everyone’s own imagination. At the same time, he explains at a relatively longer length what Bitcoin can do for states. First they say it’s “theoretically impossible.” Then “Maybe it’s possible, but certainly not practical.” Then: “But only marginal groups use it.” Later: “We’re studying it.” Now: “This is the future. We are here to control and regulate.” All in all, the “Philosophy of Bitcoin” is not just regarding Bitcoin – it’s regarding reinterpreting society and its basic institutions. D. María offers a convincing argument that we are on the verge of radical changes, and Bitcoin is the catalyst and tool for this transformation. About the author The book was originally published in Spanish in 2022 under the title “La Filosofía de Bitcoin” and received a lot of attention for its unique exploration of the civilization-disruptive nature of Bitcoin.
