The philologist Dolores Corbella (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1959) has been chosen as the new academic of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) following the cultural institution approved this Thursday the proclamation of her candidacy to occupy chair ‘d’, vacant since the death of Francisco Rodríguez Adrados on July 24, 2020. It was the third time that she was a candidate, and she has made the saying good.

As stated in article X of the RAE statutes, which establishes the rules for the entry of new members into the corporation, his candidacy needed the endorsement of three academics. Dolores Corbella has had the support of Emilio Lledó, José Antonio Pascual and Carme Riera.

The RAE has a total of forty-six academic chairs.

Currently, in addition to the ‘d’, the letters ‘a’, ‘q’ and ‘x’ are vacant, whose previous holders were, respectively, the philologists Manuel Seco and Gregorio Salvador Caja, and the poet Francisco Brines.
