The “phantoms” “swear, drink and smoke”, celebration for the anniversary of the offer

The “phantom” Squadron of Andravida has its honor this year because it has been 50 years since they joined our Air Force.

Next Wednesday over the sky of Western Greece, the steel fighter “male” will remind us of its years and all the glorious history it carries, flying and guarding the Thermopylae of the ethers.

The “phantoms” themselves, several of whom were Air Force chiefs, called the “phantom” “male” because he swears, drinks and smokes. The characterization is of course allegorical, which of course has its explanation. The “phantom” with its engines roaring… curses, consuming large amounts of kerosene… drinks and with the exhaust it emits… smokes.

Next Wednesday, therefore, an anniversary event is being organized at 117 AM of Andravida for the 50 years of the F-4 aircraft in the service of the homeland. The event includes a eulogy-memorial service, reading of the Agenda, viewing of audio-visual material in the 338 Squadron area, static display of aircraft, flight of the Squadron’s F-4 fighters and flights with F-4 simulators.

It is worth remembering that these are the fighter aircraft that took part in the Vietnam war and were bought by Greece from NATO member countries.

Their inclusion in the arsenal of our country coincided with the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and there are not a few beggars even today who claim that the image of the invasion might have changed if the Greek “phantoms” had attempted to attack Megalonis at that time…
