The Peruvian Kimberly García won the silver medal in the 35-kilometer race walk event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships that take place in Budapest, Hungary. The national athlete recorded a time of 2:40:52. The winner of the competition was the Spanish María Pérez.
The athlete from Huanca was bathed in silver in a tough test in which she defended the title she won for Peru last year in Oregon, and although this time she did not win the gold medal, she still left the name of the country high by reaching a creditable second place behind María Pérez, who won the competition with a time of 2:38:40.
As you remember, Kimberly García came to this competition following finishing fourth in the 20-kilometer race, in which María Pérez also emerged victorious.
“Well, I felt better than in the 20 kilometers, to be honest, we got the silver medal and somehow I’m happy. Thank you all very much, I dedicate this silver medal to you. I know that, like me, they expected something more, but hey”, declared Kimberly García for Atletismo Peruano.
For her part, Evelyn Inga, the other Peruvian in the competition, was in sixth place with a time of 2:46:18.
