Determined to no longer target gamers only, Razer launched a new range of headsets with a more lifestyle approach shortly before the summer: the Razer Barracuda X, the Razer Barracuda, and the Razer Barracuda Pro. Two months ago, we gave you our verdict on the X model, which is quite convincing for a hybrid product that combines gaming and nomadic characteristics, given that the headset is able to adapt both in game and for musical use. Not everything was perfect, but Razer seems to be establishing itself today as a brand capable of combining the two uses with some efficiency. Today, following several months of use, it’s time to give you our verdict on the Razer Barracuda Pro, the high-end version of this category, and spoiler alert: it’s a real success!
With a displayed price of €289.99, the Razer Barracuda Pro is obviously aimed at a more demanding audience, looking for a more premium product. That’s good, as soon as you open the case, you realize that Razer has taken care of its packaging. Cardboard box, faithful to its philosophy of sustainable development “Go Green with Razer”, the helmet is placed in a semi-rigid protective cover in rather imposing imitation leather. Inside, the headset rests near a compartment with a magnetic flap in which there is the charging cable, the USB-C / USB-A adapter and a USB-C dongle. Rather practical. Once the headset is in your hands, you can see that it is slightly larger and heavier than the Razer Barracuda X, which is far from disturbing, quite the contrary. Weighing in at 340 grams (compared to 250 for the entry-level Barracuda X model), the Razer Barracuda Pro remains a lightweight headset, on par with the competition in this same category. This will also allow users to keep it on their head without fear of fatigue following several hours of use.
Three modes are also available for active noise cancellation: Off, On, and Ambient, knowing that the “Ambient” mode strikes a good balance so that the user remains alert to external sounds, so as not to be completely cut off from the noise. world.
On the design side, the Razer Barracuda Pro is not surprising, since it takes up the look of the other models in the Barracuda range, with these same clean lines where the brand logo is discreet, in order to go unnoticed when the helmet is used outdoors. Only the arch continues to display this big “RAZER” a little too coarse that we would like to see appear smaller. Hey, we’re lifestyle or we’re not. Moreover, there is a big difference in the design of the arch compared to other Barracuda models, since the Pro has separation points placed higher, which allows it to react better to twists, especially if you tend to to remove the helmet with one hand, and therefore only on one side. Regarding the ear cups, Razer has opted for a foam with a very pleasant imitation leather covering, once morest the mesh fabric for the other models. Both remain comfortable, except that the imitation leather does not catch dust or pet hair. On the other hand, because of their low density, you tend to quickly feel warm in these ear cups, which is very practical in these somewhat chilly times, less so when the heat wave will be around the corner next summer. . On the other hand, unlike the Barracuda X, the larger size of the ear cups will allow large heads not to feel cramped and that, casually, in terms of long-term comfort, it is not negligible.
ANC 3 MODES
Cut to adapt to both gaming and musical use when on the move, the Razer Barracuda Pro has the ability to easily switch between two paired devices. PC, console, smartphone, tablet, or even a Smart TV, you can switch from one to the other quite easily thanks to its dual wireless (2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth support. It’s not impossible that you have to do it several times (it happened to us), especially if you find yourself a little far from the source, but nothing really prohibitive. The headset also comes with a free application, accessible on PC, iOS and Android, which allows you to configure its features and prevent, for example, being disturbed by a phone call if you are ever focused on the game. of its price, the Razer Barracuda Pro is equipped with ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), the noise reduction technology which allows a perfect immersion of the user in his sound environment. Three modes are also available for active noise cancellation: Off, On, and Ambient, knowing that the “Ambient” mode strikes a good balance so that the user remains alert to external sounds, so as not to be completely cut off from the noise. world. Note also that the application supplied with the headphones allows you to adjust the parameters and play with the knobs according to your preferences. In terms of ergonomics, these modes are controlled via the buttons placed under the right atrium of the helmet, to be tapped several times depending on the mode selected.
GAMING + LIFESTYLE, C’EST POSSIBLE
Another feature dedicated to this Barracuda Pro is the presence of the THX label and the assurance of a beautiful spatialization of sounds and a significant presence of bass in the most important moments. THX sound is felt mainly in game, both in explosive titles such as Call of Duty or Battlefield, or those that focus on the sound environment like the recent The Quarry which made us jump more than once. Regarding gaming use, the Razer Barracuda Pro does not have a micro-stem like the other models in the range, but two small holes found on each earpiece of the headset. It’s invisible and very lifestyle like approach, but suddenly, the quality suffers directly when you have noise around you. So yes, Razer has implemented active attenuation to reduce ambient sounds, but as soon as you start talking, we will hear perfectly what is happening around you. Obviously, if you are alone at home, the invisible microphones will do the trick.
