In this new Deepening in Music we want to put the spotlight on a producer who for us goes more unnoticed than he should. We talk about Losta spectacular, multidisciplinary artist, whom we have been able to enjoy as a participant in one of the albums that has marked 2024.
We talk about Ill Pekeño’s album, PEKE, where he produces the song with Ergo Pro, QB Players, one of the great songs from this latest album by the Madrid native that sounds like a classic from day one, largely due to the good hand of this producer. An album that marked 2024 with its release, at the height of the boom of those from Madrid, and that consolidates them as references of the most boom bapera side of the genre in their generation.
However, in this case we are not talking about Persa because of his participation in other people’s projects, but because of his own projects.
A spark of sonority
As we said, although we can find him in the work of other artists, what has really blown our minds is the pair of works he signs as Persa, in which he explores relationships between a sound closer to classic rap and jazz. These works come to us under the simple title of Jazz 251 and Persa Jazz 251/2, and they are a real blast.
First of all, you could tell us that mixing jazz is nothing new, not only in international rap, but also in national rap. We have clear examples of classics such as the jazz magnetism of Kase O, or Lechowski. However, none of these works have anything to do with what we are talking about.
Persa’s albums explore a more purely musical plane, and rely just enough on organic music, with the addition of a bass on the second volume and Persa himself on the keyboard. The vocal section is sample-based, creating a really cool mixtape in which the middle point oscillates precisely between jazz and rap, without taking a fixed point, taking more of one or the other as we advance, sometimes showing them to us in their purest state.

Pure and hard music mania
Two gorgeous volumes (for us, especially the second one, which is a total work of art), which demand time and attention. We are not talking about music to put on in the background. Both of Persa’s works demand that you sit down and listen to them until they finish playing, that you immerse yourself in the atmosphere they create, like someone who sets up a cinema at home.
A sound project that will delight the most music-loving listeners, and that shows us that in Spain we can find new ways flowing beyond the most classic cut of Spanish rap and the new, more mainstream sound that has conquered the big festivals and jumped to the front line of the public.
Certainly, from the little information we have found about him, nothing seems to indicate that Persa is an artist very inclined to enter through the most favorable channels of the music industry. Both works (we are still talking about those focused on the jazz mix) are about two years apart, and the second volume has just seen the light, so to speak.
Therefore, it does not seem that we will be able to enjoy anything new from him anytime soon, which is even better so that we can calmly savour both works in all their details, while we delight in the idea of a near future. We encourage you to follow and support this and other projects. so special that they enrich and enhance the sound of our scene.
