The Professional Referee Department heard this Friday the case relating to the penaltygate during Anderlecht – Genk. The hearing still leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
Both sides are still convinced that they are right. Genk believe an error was made in the application of the rules, while Anderlecht believe it was a careless error.
The VAR admitted that, in the intensity of the events, it did not look at the Anderlecht players who entered the rectangle too early. The assistants would in fact not have mentioned Yari Verschaeren. This speaks in favor of Anderlecht, because it would be a human error. The refereeing department has not yet given its verdict on this matter.
Anderlecht – Genk ahead of the BAS?
If it is a human error, the file will not even be transmitted to the Disciplinary Council and Genk will only be able to win its case with the BAS, the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport. The consequences might then be considerable for the rest of the championship.
“The question now is to what extent Genk wants to continue on this path. If the entire procedure were to be initiated, the start of Play-Offs 1 might be compromised. Because then all clubs will contest all errors of interpretation”, declared Anderlecht’s lawyer Walter ladies in comments relayed by The last news.
