The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) denounced this Thursday the arrest of the militant of his organization and union leader Ángel Castillo, who was arrested by State security agents, following participating in the protest of public workers in the center of Caracas.

“The Communist Party of Venezuela denounces the kidnapping by police officers of the militant Ángel Castillo, national coordinator of the ‘June 2’ collective of Barrio Adentro workers (government health program),” the political organization warned in a published message. on his Twitter account.

The PCV described the arrest as a “kidnapping” and explained that it was carried out by officials of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) who, during the arrest, also beat Adelaida Zerpa, leader of the organization.

Pedro Eusse, a member of the PCV national leadership, confirmed to Efe that the arrest took place outside the political party’s headquarters, in western Caracas, following the PCV members who participated in the labor protest were followed. to the offices of the organization by six individuals on motorcycles.

Eusse indicated that the officials also took the truck in which Castillo was traveling and that it was assigned by Parliament to deputy Óscar Figuera, general secretary of the PCV.

The PCV asks that Ángel Castillo be released

He stressed that this is the first arrest of a member of the self-proclaimed Chavista party and called it “arbitrary.”

“This detention has no justification, it is arbitrary, it violates the human rights of the comrade and what is appropriate is that he be released immediately,” he remarked.

Several NGOs have denounced in recent days a “new attack” once morest human rights activists, humanitarian workers and trade unionists, regarding the arrest, in early July, of trade union leaders Alcides Bracho, Alonso Meléndez, Emilio Negrín , Gabriel Blanco, Reynaldo Cortés, Néstor Astudillo and Yeny Pérez.
