The Patagonian Parliament rejected Milei’s DNU and defended the YCRT Productive Unit

In its first virtual session, the Patagonian Parliament declared a strong rejection of the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 70/23 of the management of Javier Milei. This decree, which seeks economic deregulation, generated concern among legislators, who considered it a threat to the collective and individual rights of citizens, as well as to the region’s tax benefits.

The session, organized by the Santa Cruz legislature, It had the participation of prominent Patagonian legislators, including Lorena Parrilli, Federico Méndez, Mónica Guanque, Carina Riccomini, César Gass, Matías Martínez and Alberto Bruno. During the meeting, various initiatives were analyzed, but the issue that attracted attention was the unanimous rejection of DNU 70/23.

Deputy Lorena Parrilli expressed concern about the negative impact that the decree would have on the protection and security of Argentinians. He highlighted that the measure deregulates, unprotects and adjusts the working class, which he considers unnecessary and unfair.

In addition, the latest Government decisions were discussed in the Base Law approved by the Deputies, which could leave Tierra del Fuego vulnerable to the possibility of eliminating the tax benefits that the region currently has.

These benefits are essential to attract investments and promote development in the province. The deputy highlighted that Tierra del Fuego experienced great growth in the last decade thanks to these tax measures, and stressed the importance of protecting this region.

In the same sense, deputy Alberto Bruno highlighted the importance of participation in the first session of the Patagonian Parliament and pointed out that, although Patagonians do not always share the same opinions, it is crucial to maintain unity in the defense of the interests of the region.

Bruno too made its position clear regarding the permanent defense of the territory of the Malvinas Islands and South Atlantic Islandshighlighting the importance of ratifying sovereignty over them.

Finally, deputy César Gass raised the proposal that the next session of the Patagonian Parliament be held in the province of Neuquén, idea that received support from the other members of parliament.

The unanimous rejection of DNU 70/23 and the call to defend the region’s tax benefits marked an important step in the consolidation of the Patagonian Parliament as a space for unity and action in defense of the interests of the region.
