A man in his 60s died when his car drove off and fell four floors from the parking garage at Sandvika shopping center in Bærum at 8pm on Monday evening. The car drove out into an area where there are two openings secured with a metal fence and guard rail, and with a brick wall between.
The car park was closed after the incident, but was reopened on Tuesday. The area where the accident happened has been cordoned off, and security guards have been at the scene throughout the night.
Crime leader Oscar Støversten in the Oslo police district says on Tuesday morning that it is currently too early to say what happened. The main hypothesis is that it was an accident.
– There are some investigations we want to complete. What happened immediately before the incident is something we are working to find out. Technical examinations of the car will also be carried out to see what kind of data we can get out of it, he adds the newspaper.
The police are also interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance.
