The Paris Stock Exchange ended stable Friday following a volatile session, before a week brimming with new statistics and corporate results, with investments showing a wait-and-see attitude before meetings of several central banks.
After an opening slightly down and several back and forth, the star CAC 40 index closed sluggish (+0.02% to 7,097.21 points). The day before, it had advanced by 0.74% to its highest since February 10, 2022. Over the week, it rose another 1.45%.
“There were rather correct macroeconomic data” which confirm a slowdown in inflation and a recovery in consumer confidence in January in the United States, but “this is not a panacea either”, comments Frédéric Rollin , investment specialist at Pictet, to AFP.
In addition, “very scattered corporate results confirm that the results season is going to be a little difficult”, he notes.
On the monetary front, investors are awaiting clearer indications from the major central banks following their meetings next week.
They want to know how far the US Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and the Bank of England will go in their monetary tightening this year to fight inflation.
In France, household morale fell slightly in January, still remaining very low compared to the historical average, INSEE said on Friday.
