The Austrian team will participate in the 17th World Cup from August 28 to September 8. The Paris Summer Paralympics were sworn in and bid farewell to by German Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Sunday evening. With one exception, all 24 athletes were present at the farewell celebrations at the Kur Salon in Vienna; only rider Valentina Strobl was unwell. Over the next few days, the ÖPC team will travel to France in stages.

“The most exciting weeks of your sporting career are ahead and Austria supports you and wishes you all the best,” Nehammer said. For the Prime Minister, it is particularly important for the athletes to enjoy the competition: “Come back with as many good impressions as possible.” Before the personal oath, badminton player Henriette Couch read out the oath formula on behalf of all local athletes.

Federal President Alexander van der Bellen was unable to attend the farewell ceremony, but addressed the athletes via video. “Your success at the Paralympics so far has made Austria proud. I hope you can continue the success story in Paris. In any case, I pray,” the 80-year-old said.

ÖPC president Maria Rauch-Kallat argued that “in the coming weeks our heroes will be accompanied by encouragement, applause and enthusiasm.” The 75-year-old aims to get as many as possible medals, good rankings and good health.
